New Tools for Assessment, Feedback, and Grading

We will begin this session by exploring the instruments and measures we use to assess what students know and what students are able to do, as well as the mechanisms we use to feed results back to students. After we discuss a few empirical studies, we will investigate strategies for graded and non-graded assessment strategies. We will then devote time to the issue of grading -- both the assignment of a specific ranking to students’ work and some tools that are available for making grading more fair and less time-consuming.
