Students: as you prepare for Winter Quarter 2023, we want to make sure you are aware of Canvas help resources available to you over the break. While Academic Technology Solutions (ATS) personnel will be unavailable during the Winter Recess from Dec. 26 to Jan. 2, there are other resources upon which you can draw if you need help or have questions.
Synchronous Help
Canvas Help: Help from Instructure, the vendor for Canvas, is available during Winter Recess. There are two ways to get in touch with support personnel:
- Live Chat. To access live chat, click on Help in the Canvas global (gray) navigation bar. Then click on Chat with Instructure Canvas Support (Student) to begin your chat.
- Phone. The phone number for students is (844) 334-6803. This number can also be found under the heading Call Instructure Support (Students) within the Help menu.
Important Note: Canvas support will be unavailable on Sunday, Dec. 25 between 9 A.M. and 6 P.M. CST.
UChicago ITS Service Desk: The ITS Service Desk will continue to be staffed during Winter Recess. They can be reached at (773) 702-5800.
Asynchronous Help
Instructure offers a number of helpful guides to topics in Canvas, many of them student-focused. To begin your journey, you can visit their Canvas Guides main page.
Commonly Asked Questions
What if I can’t find my course in Canvas? This typically occurs because the instructor has not yet published the Canvas site for your course. You can check this by clicking on Courses in your Canvas global navigation bar. If your upcoming course appears under Unpublished Courses, it is not yet published.
What if I’ve forgotten/lost my phone while traveling and can’t use Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)? For information on what to do in this situation, please see IT Services’ 2FA FAQ.
