Chicago Center for Teaching and Learning

The Chicago Center for Teaching and Learning (CCTL) supports effective pedagogy at UChicago. The CCTL offers workshops, conferences, consultations, and other opportunities to help faculty, instructors, graduate students, and postdocs maximize their potential in the classroom. Academic Technology Solutions and CCTL have worked together on a number of projects, notably the Try IT: Academic Tech for Active Learning event series.

UChicago Library

The UChicago Library provides both resources and expertise to support scholarship across the University. The Library offers courses on research methods to help students learn vital skills, as well as training in citation management tools such as Endnote and Zotero, while the Center for Digital Scholarship connects faculty and students to digital methods and resources that can enhance their scholarly work.

UChicago Language Center

The UChicago Language Center is the central hub for pedagogy in over fifty languages offered by the University. Offering certifications, professional development workshops, language assessment, and more, the Language Center looks beyond individual departments and programs to maintain a consistently high level of language instruction at UChicago.

UChicago Summer Session

The UChicago Summer Session offers formal instruction during the Summer Quarter for both pre-collegiate and undergraduate students. Many Summer Quarter courses are now offered online, and Summer Session staff are working closely with Academic Technology Solutions to ensure that faculty and instructors have the tools they need for key aspects of online instruction, as well as in-person.

Learning Technology Group

The UChicago Learning Technology Group (LTG) is a community of practice including staff from throughout the University who work with digital teaching tools and digital pedagogy. With members from many of the partners listed above, the LTG cross-pollinates developments and innovations in particular areas of the University to the wider LTG group, allowing all its members to keep abreast of the state of educational technology at UChicago.

Within the various schools, divisions, and departments of the University, many staff members support faculty and instructors in teaching with technology. Regardless of whether those staff members bear the formal title of “instructional designer,” they are welcome to take part in the Learning Technology Group. LTG participants have included staff from the Pritzker School of Medicine, the Booth School of Business, and the Social Sciences Division, Art History’s Visual Resource Center, among others.

If you have a role supporting instructors or faculty with instruction, feel free to reach out to us about joining the Learning Technology Group. Please email us at academictech@uchicago.edu and let us know what department you are with and what role you have.
