Do you have multimedia material on older media that you’d like to use in your upcoming courses? If you’re not sure how to digitize it yourself, let us do it for you. AV Services can digitize materials from older media. This allows you to deliver the material to your students via Panopto and Canvas so that your whole class (in person, or remote) can gain access to it. An added plus is that once you have it digitized, you can easily use it again for future courses.
AV Services can take these formats and digitize them in-house:
- VHS – All international standards
- DVD – All regions
- 16mm film
- Cassette tapes
- Compact Discs
- 33 and 45 RPM records
- MiniDV tapes
- 8mm video
We can digitize other media, as long as you can bring us the device to play it on that has a composite video output, along with the media itself:
- Betamax
- SVHS
- Laserdisk
- VCD
If you haven’t used Panopto before, we offer workshops you can attend, and we can also upload your media directly to Panopto for storage and usage in your courses.
Contact us now to get started (avs@uchicago.edu or call us at 773-834-4499), and beat the winter rush. You can drop off media at our office in Stuart Hall, room 004, or we can pick it up from on-campus locations. We will return the media to you after we complete the digitization.
Hi! I am the lead graduate student for the KICP space explorers program, hosting a summer camp for high school students. I am hoping to view some movies available from the library (I confirmed the DVD availability), and am wondering if your office can digitize them for me so that I can show them on Aug 2 and 4 from a laptop with an HDMI cable to a display. The DVDs are DVD PN1997.Z9I535 c.1, DVD PN1997.Z9T3876 c.1.
Is it possible to digitize VHS tapes that are needed for a graduate student’s research, not for a class?
