Academic Technology Solutions (ATS) is continuing its event series Try IT: Academic Tech for Active Learning in Autumn 2023. This event series explores tools, techniques, and tips for engaging students in the classroom, with a special focus on how digital tools supported by UChicago can promote active learning.

The series began with two events in Spring 2023, the first focusing on easily implemented strategies to support active learning and the second on breaking lecture content into microlectures. Both events were recorded and are available to view in Panopto:

The next event in the series, Taking the Temperature: Poll Everywhere and Real-Time Feedback, is coming up on Wednesday, Nov. 1, from 3:30-5:00 P.M., and will be held in a hybrid format (in-person at the Regenstein Library TechBar, as well as on Zoom). This event will focus on Poll Everywhere, a UChicago-supported software tool for instant classroom polling that has replaced physical “clickers”. Faculty and instructors have used Poll Everywhere successfully for quick concept checks, to spark classroom discussion, and more. A panel composed of UChicago instructors and a representative from Poll Everywhere will lay out how to employ Poll Everywhere to drive student engagement and learning. Attendees will also have an opportunity to try out Poll Everywhere for themselves.

If you are interested in coming to this event, we invite you to RSVP now with your preferred method of attendance. You may also want to read past ATS blog posts on Poll Everywhere, which discuss both the nuts and bolts of the tool and strategies for its effective use. Please contact us with any questions you may have, drop by our office hours to ask about any of our teaching tools, or book a consultation with an instructional designer.
