Faculty Panels

There are two panels in Week 11 that may be of interest to you as well.

TRANSLATING LESSONS ON REMOTE AND HYBRID TEACHING TO THE WINTER: A FACULTY PANEL FOR THE HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

offered by the Chicago Center for Teaching

Date and Time: Tuesday Dec. 8, 1:30-3:00 P.M.

Description: As we conclude autumn quarter and look forward to winter, it is an opportune time to think through lessons learned about remote and hybrid teaching during the pandemic. What strategies have proven successful? What challenges have we faced and how have we adapted? What new approaches might we incorporate for winter quarter and perhaps bring back to our teaching once we fully return to face-to-face instruction? A panel of faculty and instructors from across the humanities and social sciences will share their reflections on these and other questions, leading into an open discussion.

SOCIAL ANNOTATION: TOOLS FOR TEACHING READING IN THE HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

a collaboration between Academic Technology Solutions and Remote Humanities

Date and Time: Wednesday Dec. 9, 3:00-4:30 P.M.

Description: Teaching reading has never been easy. First, the act of reading is by nature intangible. Then, there are different forms of reading: from textual analysis and close reading to translation, from assessing, collating, and evaluating sources to theoretical and conceptual readings and quantitative analysis of texts in linguistics. What strategies have proven successful for teaching reading? What challenges have we faced and how have we adapted? What new approaches might we incorporate in Winter Quarter and perhaps bring back to our teaching once we fully return to face-to-face instruction? A panel of faculty and instructors from across the humanities and social sciences will share their reflections on these and other questions, leading into an open discussion. Faculty will reflect on using the social annotation application Hypothes.is in the Autumn Quarter, sharing lessons learned.
