Thursday, May 15, 2025, is the 14th Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). This is a day to reflect on the importance of accessibility and the need to lower barriers for the approximately one billion individuals worldwide living with disabilities. To mark this year’s GAAD, the UChicago Center for Digital Accessibility (CDA) will be holding a series of events in April and May. These include:
- Ivy+ GAAD Accessibility Event: Wednesday, April 30, 11am-3pm CDT
- At this virtual event, hosted by Stanford University, personnel from UChicago and its peer institutions within the Ivy+ group will give presentations and lightning talks on topics in accessibility.
- Beyond the Visible: The Continuum of Disabilities and Today’s Assistive Tech: Wednesday, May 14, 2-2:45pm CDT
- At this virtual event, staff from Academic Technology Solutions and the CDA will introduce you to the various types of disabilities that can affect individuals over their lifetime and invite you to consider how assistive technology can help individuals with permanent, temporary, or situational disabilities.
- Sharing Stories of Progress: Tuesday, May 20, 10-10:45am CDT
- Join the CDA for this virtual event as we applaud people across UChicago who have strengthened the accessibility of their digital materials (websites, courses, documents, videos, emails, and more) or created more inclusive processes.
